Let’s face it. You know there’s something more you can contribute than feel isolated in your 9-to-5. You also know you have a unique ability or developing abilities that nobody else has, and can share that with the rest of the world. So why lay those talents and skills dormant to what the world THINKS you ought to be? What the world NEEDS of you is your ability to work with others and to share with them your individual talents to support your as well as the world’s dreams. Let me clarify that I’m not talking about delusions of grandeur or wishful thinking. Watch a beginning episode of American Idol and that should give you a clue of who hallucinates for stardom versus those who are star-material. And what separates the star from the dreamer is the person who realizes what it truly is, that person has of him/herself to offer to the world. And more than likely a team of people had to believe and support that star in the first place. If the “bigger” market is always in a state of basic supply and demand then consider what this “smaller” person and his total interaction with world had to offer. Born in 1940 in Bangladesh he spent his childhood years in a village called Bathua and was raised Muslim. A few years later, he moved with his family to the city of Chittagong for his father to run a jewelry business. He was always the studious type but also interested in activities and travel that would complement his studies, such as being involved in the Boy Scouts and the World Scouts Jamboree. During his teen and adolescent years, not only did he travel through Europe and Asia by road to experience cultural activities, but also as thespian means to enhance his drama acting performances. From 1957 to 1961 he completed his B.A. and M.A. to join the ranks of the Bureau of Economics. Starting off as a research assistant, he was later appointed as a lecturer in economics at a college in Chittagong, the same city where he had spent much of his youth. He was soon offered a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the United States and obtained his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in the United States in 1969 and became an assistant professor in economics at Middle Tennessee States University in 1972. However in 1976, his research and visits to some of the poorest nearby villages began to channel into a vision that he saw the world desperately needed. He realized that very small loans could make a huge impact to a poor person. Yet traditional banks would not make small-sized, or micro-loans, even at equitable interest rates to the poor since they were considered repayment risks. Drawing from leadership inspiration from Dr. Khan, a rural development expert, and from what he saw could help both traditional banks as well as the poor, this man by the name of Muhammad Yunus finally succeeded in securing these micro-loans from a government bank to lend to a part of the country’s poor in December 1976. Other banks provided loans to the government bank to help fund the loaned business projects and was later renamed Grameen Bank, which stands for “of village.” To ensure the repayment of these loans, the Grameen Bank uses support or “solidarity groups” to apply together for loans and to use individual members as co-guarantors of repayment. Not only would individual members be held accountable for fiscal repayment, but they would also support each other’s efforts towards their ventured advancements. To date the Grameen Bank has issued more than $6 billion to over 7 million borrowers and offers loans to various types of public as well as private projects. The Grameen model has inspired very similar efforts throughout developing nations including industrialized nations such as the United States. Finally in 2006 Dr. Muhammad Yunus was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize along with the Grameen Bank. This is a joint award that not only the individual Dr. Yunus deserved but also to the team that shared in that vision. Build your team. Build your dream. Had an odd dream lately where you found yourself in the most unlikely places? Our dreams are always telling us something, and the venues and settings in our dreams contribute a whole new layer and impact to their meanings. Here are analyses of places you visit (or will visit yet) in your dreams. Cliff Obviously, cliffs are signs of hardships and obstacles, but not necessarily so. If you dream you are on the edge of a cliff, looking down, it means you are facing obstacles in life which need a wider perspective from you. Falling into the ravine however means you need to regain your balance in real life, so be extra careful. Attic Attic rooms always have a scary, claustrophobic connotation with them, so if you dream of being in an attic, watch out if it is a cluttered, gloomy, and abandoned place. A clean and well-lit attic is a good sign though. Attics symbolize plans we haven't yet gotten around to making as well as the current state of our minds. Ferris Wheel Dreaming of Ferris Wheels signals either a happy return to childhood or a vicious cycle you want to end once and for all. It may be that you need to loosen a bit in your life and start enjoying risks; then again it could also be that you want to escape from the pressures of daily routine. Hot Air Balloon Ride Not many have the chance to ride in a hot-air balloon, so dreaming of it means you haven'te been generous to yourself lately, and that you need to treat yourself to something you haven't done before, or something luxurious. After all, a balloon ride is adventurous and always exhilarating. On the other hand, you could also be concerned about your relationship with people; and you either need to escape or you want to be looked up. Cemetery Cemeteries are not always dreadful places, portending death and disaster. Cemeteries, in fact, can signal death of something you need to get rid of: a guilt, a vice, a sadness, or anger. Cemeteries can mean rebirth then. On the down side, dreaming of dark, open grave cemeteries can mean your fear of death, or concern about health. Bathroom Bathrooms are private enclosures, so dreams of being inside a bathroom can either mean an urgent need for cleansing or self-renewal, or a search for privacy, a hiding place where you can do things without anyone judging you. When you can't find the bathroom in your dream, it signifies that you are having difficulties in expressing your emotions or satisfying your urges. Beach The beach is a delicate meeting point of water and sand, which translate into the two states of your mind--the sand being the physical, tangible mind, while the ocean, its fleeting and spiritual counterpart. Dreaming of a being on the beach means a decision that needs your attention, depending on which state of your mind you choose to rule over. When he’s not welding words on paper, he can be found at the beach carving washable poems. Self Esteem: You Are Not Who You Think You Are
David sat in front of me at one of my five-day intensive workshops. A successful businessman with a wife and two grown children, David believed that he was not good enough. ?I?m insufficient,? he said. ?I?m inadequate.? I looked at this kind man and felt deep sadness for him. He did not know who he was. ?Why do you believe that?? I asked. ?I didn?t do well in school, and I?ve made lots of mistakes in my life.? ?So you are basing your worth on your performance, right?? ?Of course.? David could not conceive of any other way of defining his worth other than through his performance ? which he never saw as good enough. I asked David to look inside ? at the essence of himself - and tell me what he sees. All he saw was emptiness. ?David, please close your eyes. Now imagine a wonderful being who loves you very much. Who comes to mind?? ?My grandfather. He died when I was young, but he really loved me.? ?Good. Now imagine that you are seeing yourself through the eyes of your grandfather. What does your grandfather see when he looks at you?? ?He sees a bright and creative little boy, who is very kind and caring. A loving little boy. A little boy who is funny and likes to laugh, and likes to make other people laugh.? ?Is there anything wrong with this little boy? Anything inadequate or insufficient?? ?Oh no! He is a wonderful little boy.? ?David, this is who you really are. You are not your performance. Your performance will come and go and at some point you might retire and not perform at all. Yet that does not mean that you are, therefore, worthless. Your worth is in who you are, not in what you do. Your worth in intrinsic.? David realized that, because of his highly critical and rejecting parents, he had always been trying to prove himself and always came up short in their eyes. As a result of seeing himself as unworthy and inadequate, he did not treat himself well. He treated himself the way his parents had treated him ? with criticism and neglect. He was always trying to take care of everyone else, but rarely thought about taking care of himself. He was constantly abandoning himself emotionally, just as he had been emotionally abandoned by his parents. ?David, if you chose to see yourself as your grandfather saw you rather than how your parents saw you, how would you feel about yourself and how would you treat yourself?? ?I?ve just been thinking about that. I just realized that I treat my dog better than I treat myself! I would never judge my dog the way I judge myself.? ?So what would you do differently if you saw yourself the way your grandfather sees you?? ?I would stop judging myself as insufficient and inadequate. I?m a really good person. I am not at all insufficient or inadequate as a person. And I choose my friends based on who they are as people ? not on their performance. So I obviously value the very qualities that I possess!? ?What else would you do if you really valued who you are?? ?I would listen to my own feelings and take care of my own needs instead of taking care of everyone else?s feelings and needs. I would no longer see it as selfish to take care of myself instead of taking care of everyone else. I would be at least as attentive to myself as I am to my dog!? David was glowing. He was discovering who he really is, not who he thought he was. People often think that their worth ? who they really are ? is based on looks and performance. Yet these qualities are transitory. What is real and eternal is who you are in your heart and soul. If you shift your definition of your worth from outer to inner, you will stop trying to prove yourself. You will know that you are already a beautiful being, totally deserving of love. Margaret Paul, Ph.D. best-selling author of eight books, and co-creator of the powerful Inner Bonding healing process. Organize Your Life For Success!
Organizing the content of your life based on your needs is a best practice for managing your time, resources and money and is an essential first step if you are to fully achieve your potential in life. The reasons for this are simple. An organized clear mind leads to clear and objective goals, which in turn leads to you being able to achieve what you set out to do. A critical first step then in staying organized is to set up a system of resource planning and clerical needs that allows you to plan out your time effectively, and allocate where you are going to spend it. In short this means such steps as getting a day planner so that you can plan ahead. Getting appropriate stationary systems and office space in place, and also getting yourself a filing cabinet, or at the very least some kind of filing system! It would certainly be true to say that staying organized then is not something that lots of people do naturally! At first it can even seem slightly stifling, especially if you are used to totally going with the flow of what each day brings. In truth this is ok. It IS good to be spontaneous on occasions, but in general it is vital to plan out what you need to do in a particular time frame, because otherwise it is all to easy to simply become distracted! (For help with Goal Setting you can visit http://www.goalsettingnews.com) All of us know this to be true if we think about it from the viewpoint of our own lives. For example, when we surf the web we find ourselves flitting between sites, and before you know it a couple of hours have past! Now, don't get me wrong. That is one of the joys of the internet, and of life in General. But it is nevertheless a time stealer that staying focused and staying organised could have helped to negate. So then am I saying that Staying Organized should mean robbing you of the juice of life? Robbing you of the spontaneity? NO! No! NO! For me the exact opposite is true. Staying organized is about finishing the day's tasks and having crammed far more good stuff in! In short it is the exact opposite of a spoil sport! ;) You should know your own strengths and weaknesses when it comes to this area (clue... Staying organized means doing more of the things you like!) and communicate them to yourself regularly to analyze that your wants and needs are being met effectively. Then organize your time based on that feedback. Keep with the program. Stay Organized, and Organize YOUR Life For Success! Organizing helps you save two of your vital resources. It is agreed by many Experts that most important resources to mankind are Time, Energy and Money. You can never regain your time. Once gone, it is gone forever. Hence productive use of time is very essential. Energy is replaceable. It can be regained with food, exercise or rest. But time wasted due to lack of energy is not. Proper use of your physical energy is very important. Similarly, mental energy also needs to be ideally utilised. Optimal use of your physical and mental energies can increase your overall efficiency. Continuous productive use of your energy is known to produce comparatively better results. If you are not organized, your valuable resources of time and energy are wasted unproductively in repetitive tasks of finding and locating the important things. Some time it becomes so frustrating that you are unable to perform the way you need to. You have to use your energy in a better, constructive and productive way. You need to maintain higher energy levels. Better energy will stop the undue wastage of time. So maintaining high energy levels is not only very important, it is critical. Use your time cautiously for productive purposes. Any loss of time is irreplaceable as it can not be recovered. You should not allow the wastage of any of your two most important valuable resources. Being properly organized, you can use your most valuable resources of time and energy for productive work. Continuous utilization of these resources increases your overall efficiency. That, again, make you perform at peak levels. I have learned these critical and useful lessons during the course of my business career as well as personal life. It helps me a lot to use resources cautiously and optimally to increase my overall efficiency. I sincerely wish that this article will be useful and beneficial to you. One of the worst habits you can have is to be a perfectionist. Most people do not even realize that being a perfectionist leads to the horrible habit of procrastination - putting off the things that you know need to be done. The basis for procrastination is the fear that we will not do something properly so we decide not to start. If we don't start then we cannot fail. We think in our heads that we must complete a project but are afraid it will not be done correctly leading to failure or being completed late and unsatisfactory. This type of thinking leaves no middle ground; you are either perfect or a complete failure. People who think this way set them selves up for failure because very, I repeat very, few thinks are perfect in life. Striving to be perfect creates expectations, pressures and problems, which create enormous stress. This stress is so strong that being happy is almost impossible. One of the most damaging problems with being a perfectionist is the feeling of having to impress others. So much so that the perfectionist thinking holds them back from ever being able to break any old habits and being able to create the change they desire. You have to change your level of thinking. Accept that you and everything around you is not perfect. You will find yourself able to start projects with out being afraid. Be able to smile and not worry what others think about what you are doing. Not think to your self "I can't do it because I know it will come out bad, No body will like it. I just can't. "Or say "I'll just do it tomorrow, I have plenty of time." Perfectionists say these statements all the time. Don't fall into these traps. Enjoy life, smile and have fun. Do not let the things you have to do in life control you. Change your behavior today! It all starts with your mind set. Copyright 2006 Looking to where the grass is greener?
Change is as good as a holiday or so it goes. Is it really? From past experience, some changes can actually make things worse than they were before. What if the only thing we changed was to deal with things in a different way? Get a different perspective on things? I've written this article specifically for individuals contemplating change with the idea of making things better, brighter and different. This change could be anything from relationship/s, career, to relocating somewhere else (having a sea change is an example). It could also be in the form of personal development through attending courses, reading and networking. Whatever it is for you, it may possibly be that what you're searching for is available to you right now, with no need to look very far. It's called inner peace and with it comes a change of perspective - looking at life in a different way. A state of being that will allow you to get on with it' regardless of what's happening in your external environment. Basically, inner peace is a state of mind where you're not impacted by external circumstances, you simply just are'. Whenever I step into peace no issue agitates me, I have no attachment to anything; I just am. Quite simply, it's peaceful, serene. Inner peace: It sounds pretty clichd I know, but it is just that, peace on the inside whilst around you chaos reigns. For me the inside bit is the place I'd rather be. I liken it to watching a game of football from a front row seat. I can see how I relate to others and them to me, in my social, work, spiritual, and family life. I can also see the never ending possibilities of what life has to offer. This is where I get the big picture stuff. It's a place I love visiting to rebalance, regenerate, and centre myself. When I return and again become aware of my physical environment, the clarity to see how things really are is almost blinding. Clarity: when there is total clearness about everything and anything. It's when actions are totally understood as well as the consequences of those actions. I've personally yearned for change and have observed others with same. This desire for change can become all encompassing and when change fails to happen the way we'd like it to, or thought it would be, the disappointment can lead to hopelessness and in some ways be emotionally crippling. The adage The grass is greener on the other side of the fence' is not necessarily true. I've been there done that, although I failed to buy the t-shirt. All I needed mostly was a different way of looking at my situation. If you're contemplating creating major change in your life think carefully about why you want it in the first place. Maybe a different perspective is all the change that's required. Give yourself some time to truthfully answer and reflect on the following questions: 1. What would happen if I started to create change for myself? 2. What would happen if I left things unchanged? 3. Who will I become through having that change happen? 4. What needs to happen for me to truly get the most out of life? 5. Where will I be, and what will I be doing once I've changed what I wanted to? 6. How will this change affect your family and other areas of your life? 7. What would happen if you changed your attitude? 8. If you didn't change your attitude what would happen? 9. What is it that I need to do now in order to enjoy life the way it is? 10. Will it be worth it? 11. What will I lose? 12. What will I gain? 13. What are all the positive outcomes if I do not create change? (There's always a positive, even when we perceive something as negative). I had a huge 10 year goal until recently. After I jotted down all the positive outcomes if I didn't pursue my dream, I sighed with relief. It was much better for me and the family, not to have this particular outcome. Change can be challenging and scary. What was known before becomes outdated, friendships are outgrown, new ones are formed, and if things were comfortable previously, now it's time to become comfortable with the uncomfortable. Adjustment takes time. Learning to access inner peace can take time too. Some people fully immerse themselves in the change process, whereby others may take a little while longer and that's ok too. It's different for each of the six billion people on this planet. May change in whatever form you choose bring you success and abundance in all things great and wonderful. The importance of a sound roof. Your home is designed to protect you, your family and your property from the elements, and the roof is the one part of the house that takes the most damage in providing you with this invaluable service. Yet it is the one area of the home that is most overlooked by people looking to purchase a home and by those looking to upgrade or maintain their existing home. However, without adequate maintenance and regular care your roof is liable to take leaks and can become damaged very easily in the worst of conditions. The annual maintenance of your roof Checking your roof should become an annual job and if you don’t feel confident enough to know where to look then you should consult a professional who will come and do the job for you. Using a certified roofing contractor means that you can be sure the person you use is a professional who knows exactly what to look for and can give you the best advice if any work does happen to need doing. The perpetual beating of the sun, rain, wind, hail, snow and forming of ice puts pressure on any material or substance and your roof is by no means an exception to this rule. A certified roofing contractor can tell you whether you have adequate protection to ensure that your roof keeps up the work it is doing. Going up on the roof yourself When small cracks start to appear in a roof a leak may not become immediately visible and often the water can run away to areas you are unable to see. Without actually getting up into the roof itself you may not be able to see these small areas of damage yourself and clambering on the roof yourself is not everyone’s idea of a fun Saturday afternoon. The services of a certified roofing contractor should be called on to prevent damage to your roof and possible personal injury. A qualified roofing contractor A certified roofing contractor is experienced and qualified enough to complete any job from certifying your roof (usually for two years, during which time they are responsible for repairs) to completely ripping down your old roof and replacing it with a new and more effective one. A certified roofing contractor can advise you of the best tools, the best materials and the best systems to use to ensure that you are giving your house the protection it truly needs. Finding a certified roofing contractor To find a certified roofing contractor you have several options available to you. The first is word of mouth; ask family and friends if they have used the service of a good certified roofing contractor. Never simply take someone else’s word immediately though and be sure to do your own research. Contact the people responsible for giving out licenses in your state and ask them for a list of people who are registered roofing contractors. This way you will have already verified the certificate before you even contact them. Searching for roofing contractors? Visit http://www.roofer911.com now for all your roofing needs. |
